Cool design of Biggs Diner – Magsaysay Branch
It’s the coolest fastfood restaurant that I’ve visited here in the Philippines. Its design is modern and not boring but bridges the fastfood concept with a themed cafe. Exterior wise, it has a simple yet interesting form. Step inside and you will be suprised.
Biggs Diner is quite popular in Bicol. It’s a homegrown fastfood restaurant chain that is being patronized by many Bicolanos and it is probably one of the successful regional fastfood chains in the country that has a good loyal following. And I don’t miss on Biggs Diner whenever I’m there.
The restaurant, located inside The Piazza along Magsaysay Ave., which is Naga City’s high end restaurant strip, is a simple, box type yet beautiful structure that is more like a wooden crate. The openings are glass walled that gives a peek of the interior.
However, the simplicity of the exterior stops the moment you go inside. The order counter is right smack when one enters. A small space that looks like, well, what you expect in a fastfood place. But then, once you go further inside, you step into a different world of nostalgia, color and comfort.
Beautiful wooden floors. Beside the glass wall are standard table and chairs in light green and white. Parallel to it, against a tableau of vintage materials arranged at a recessed blind window that echoes the openings of the structure from the outside are vintage furniture with black tabletops. Inside are regular cafe dining furniture. Well appointed lighting, wall murals and old radios with neon lighting inside rectangular mounts decorate the blue brick wall and an old juke box near the washroom.
Around the interior space are vintage items, old stuff: A video (film) projector, a red fan and radios. There are framed pictures against a red wall and a white divider shelf with old cameras. It has hanging lamps and well appointed lighting too.
Biggs Diner Magsaysay is more like a cafe than a regular fastfood restaurant with a retro vibe that exudes nostalgia.
