It’s a looker. And you can’t help but glue your eyes to the structure as you pass it by along the main highway. White with an irregular facade, you swear that it is the best designed hotel that you’ve ever seen in Puerto Princesa. Canvas Boutique Hotel is one of the newest boutique hotels in the city. But what separates it from the rest is the interior’s spaciousness, including the restaurant, the hip design and uniquely painted rooms, courtesy of Edwin Uy Architecture for the interiors.
The lobby is also massive. Echoing the St. Paul Subterranean River, the city’s iconic natural tourist spot, multicolored and transparent plastic icicles hang on the ceiling like actual stalactites while a group of multicolored blocks of furniture for clumps of rocks at certain parts of the floor. At each level, a colorful wall mural greets guests as they alight from the elevator. These are the same kind of murals of nature found in each room and done by local artists.
While the exterior has that stately and hip look, the interiors are playful. Even the pool toilets haven’t spared with colorful paintings of the sea and marine life.
