A quaint yet interesting cafe has started operations last 8 February in Lower Busay in Cebu. With its unique design and concept, it created a buzz in social media, especially that the design of the cafe looks like an oversized wooden crate, yet charming. Add to the great location, along the side of the road with a view of the mountains and to some extent, the city below.
Crate Cafe started as an idea among Manila based friends. In an email interview with Diane:
The initial idea for Crate Café was a Café inside a shipping container or a shipping crate. The use of the shipping container as a restaurant or café is a trend now in Manila where the owners are originally from. However, we figured that transferring the shipping crate from the pier all the way up to Busay can be difficult. It would need heavy-duty equipment which would probably cost so much. Still with the idea of crate in mind, we thought of another type of crate, which are the wooden crates which serve as a storage for goods that are normally transported from one place to another.
The cafe structure is actually a big playhouse of one of the owners which was redesigned and transformed into what it is now.
Dominique Ismael, who is an Interior Design graduate, came up with the design of the coffee shop. The wood design of the café complements the view of the mountains and trees. Crate Café is like a destination coffee shop where you would not only go here for coffee but for the ambiance and the view as well. It caters to people who would like to get away from the hustle and the bustle of the city and enjoy nature while enjoying a good cup of coffee. The café is not too far away from the city, it’s just 10-15 minutes away from JY Square in Lahug. You need not go too far to have a change of scenery and make you a little closer to nature.
Although very tiny, Crate Cafe has a wider area for guests to enjoy the view and their quality coffee, bread and pastries. Check them out when you’re in Cebu.
